Crompton Greaves Enters House Wiring Segment with Launch of Armor Wires, Expanding into High-Growth Electrical Infrastructure Market
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. has entered the house wires segment with Crompton Armor Wires, expanding into India’s Rs. 1.25 lakh crore cables and wires market. Launched across South India, the range emphasizes safety, durability, and performance, supported by strong distribution, innovation, and ecosystem engagement.
The new product range, Crompton Armor House Wires, was unveiled at launch events held across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka. Designed as the core electrical backbone for Indian households, the range represents a natural adjacency to Crompton’s existing portfolio, extending its presence deeper into home electrical solutions.
To capture opportunities in the cables and wires sector, valued at nearly Rs. 1.25 lakh crore, Crompton has adopted a South India-first go-to-market strategy. The company is initially focusing on Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka, leveraging its established distribution network to strengthen its entry into the category. The approach is aligned with Crompton’s execution framework centered on premiumization, consumer-focused innovation, and strong trade engagement.
The Crompton Armor range has been developed in multiple variants to meet diverse residential requirements, offering differentiated safety, insulation, and performance features. At the premium end, Crompton Armor Ultra is engineered with 10 percent more copper content and designed to operate at temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius, ensuring higher thermal stability under heavy load conditions. The broader portfolio includes flexible house wires manufactured in compliance with relevant quality standards, reinforcing reliability and innovation.
The company stated that evolving Indian households, marked by increasing appliance usage and higher electrical loads, are driving demand for safer and more durable wiring solutions. The Crompton Armor range is designed to address these requirements through long-term durability, flame-retardant properties, anti-termite and anti-rodent protection, low-smoke and low-toxic-gas emissions, and 100 percent RoHS compliance with national safety standards.
The go-to-market strategy extends beyond retail expansion, incorporating engagement with electricians, contractors, architects, builders, and key retailers to strengthen ecosystem penetration. Crompton has also introduced the Crompton Saathi App for electricians, intended to serve as a centralized platform for product information and incentive management, further strengthening channel relationships.
According to a 2024 report by Motilal Oswal, the residential house wires segment alone is valued at Rs. 30,000–35,000 crore and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12 to 14 percent from 2024 to 2029. Crompton’s entry expands its total addressable market while reinforcing its positioning in the residential electrical ecosystem.
